My Apple Store Visits - The Story
|
My friend, Duke, and I are Apple/Macintosh fans. I've been hooked since 1984 on Mac's, and before then on Apple Computers (IIc, IIe, IIgs, etc.). I converted him from the Dark Side (Windows) around 1995, long before it was chic to be an Apple Geek.
Anyhow, when Apple started opening their corporate retail stores, we were excited about visiting one. The first to open in our area was at the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, CA. We were there the first day and got free t-shirts. Cool.
Some time in 2003 we made a friendly wager to see who could visit the most stores. We didn't set a deadline so in theory, no-one will ever win. But here's my collection of store visits and photos to date.

Just about another two years since my last new store. I haven't been out and seeking them out as much.
This one wasn't planned. Adrienne and I were in the area and decided to visit the mall to take a look around and get on the ferris wheel. We walked along, saw the store, and dropped in for some iPad play time and a business card. Oops! We forgot to take a photo. Next time..
This store was very busy for lunch time.
NOTE: Apple logo on the card is a silver foil logo (which doesn't scan well, but you get the idea). |

Wow, can you believe it took me three years to hit my next, lucky #21 Apple Store? And this one is in my backyard!
It wasn't planned but I knew if I went to the mall the store was there. So Adrienne and I paid a visit and then spent about 30 minutes playing with the iPads.
The employees in the store were really helpful and friendly. And Adrienne was good about it when it was time to leave.
We asked for a business card on the way out and then Adrienne posed for our "proof of visit" photo.
NOTE: The card might have changed long ago but this is the first one I have in this different style. It's no longer a bondi blue apple logo but instead it's a silver foil logo (which doesn't scan well, but you get the idea).; |

It's official! We had a meal at the Red Lobster outside of the mall and then decided to take a walk in the mall. I'd forgotten about the Apple Store until we turned a corner and the big, glowing Apple logo was in sight.
I grinned and Julienne winced - she knew I'd have to run in. Run in I did, got a card, played with the iPhone (my first iPhone experience!), and left far too quickly. But now Brea Mall's Apple Store is official!
(just missed - 11 November 2005)
We were out shopping on Friday night at the Brea Mall. Walking along I spotted the familiar glow of the Apple Store logo from the corner of my eye. I quickly turned my head to behold the magical storefront. Alas, when I got closer, it became apparent I was out of luck because the store wasn't open yet. The grand opening was the next morning!
I wasn't able to attend the opening the next day, but since this store is so close, I figure I'll be there soon. Until then, see my "almost got it" photo taken by my wife and her camera phone. |

"I'm goin' down to South Park, gonna have myself a time."
No, it wasn't that South Park, it was SouthPark Mall. I was in town for training and company meetings for my new job with BYB Brands, Inc. I flew in and took a cab straight to the office for some meetings, and after we adjourned for the day, went to the very nearby hotel to check in. I saw the mall nearby and decided to take a walk there in search of dinner.
I grubbed at a Panda Express equivalent and then decided to walk off some of the dinner. A turn or two inside the mall later, I ran into this Apple Store.
I was hoping to catch a store while in Charlotte but never got to scouting locations before I got on the airplane. What serendipity that there was one in the mall just across from my hotel!
Now that I'm carrying a Blackberry, I don't have a camera phone to snap photos so there isn't one for this store.
The business card is different from any I've gotten before. I think maybe I got a promotional business card instead of a regular one but it's still proof! |

I had business to attend to near L.A.X. on this day and decided while I was out that direction I should try to get some other things done. Visiting Apple stores ended up on the to-do list!
I ended up hitting four stores on this day (Third Street Promenade, Century City, Beverly Center, and The Grove). This ranks second to my Bay area five-store hit back in 2004. I would have had five on this round if I hadn't forgotten to go to the Manhattan Beach location. I didn't feel like doubling back once I'd gotten to Santa Monica.
I entirely forgot to take photos at each location. I was all stressed out from the traffic and holiday shopping crowds. I did see the new iPod Shuffle (the clip version) and am so impressed by how simple and small it is. |

I've been to Las Vegas many times since this store opened in 1992. Heck, I usually get to Vegas at least twice a year for some event or recreation. But with so many things to do in Vegas, I kept missing getting to the Fashion Show Apple Store.
It's no surprise, then, that getting to the store was mostly an accident. I was in town for the Interbike trade show and I was with a group of guys in need of some evening clothes. We went to the Fashion Show mall to shop, and as we browsed the directory for men's clothing stores, I saw the Apple Store listed.
After buying a shirt at Macy's, I told the guys I'd be right back. I hustled to the Apple Store, went in and got a business card, but in my haste, totally forgot to take a photo. So, here's the card and next time back I'll get the photo. |

I go cycling right by Fashion Island at least 30 times a year. This is also the third closest store for me (Costa Mesa being the first, Pasadena the second), so you'd think I would have gotten to this store a long time ago. Well, I didn't.
I had dinner plans in the area and immediately thought about stopping by this store afterwards. Stupid me forgot to snap a camera phone photo, probably because I was all excited about adding another visit to my list and because I was still under the spell of the iPod Nano I just played with. The Reality Distortion Field really whacked me out. |

I was in downtown Pasadena with my wife and friends for dinner and drinks. We were walking along Colorado Blvd. and there it was; a beautiful Apple Store! I rushed in for a business card and back out for a quick camera phone photo, then we were off walking again. This was my first unplanned Apple Store hit. |

First Apple store visited! Got a free shirt on the first day of business. Cool!
Our contest wasn't in effect on this visit so I don't have a photo. I did get a business card because I used the day to also bring in a 17" Studio Display CRT that was not working right. I was one of the first persons in for repairs at the Genius Bar and I had to fill out a lot of paperwork before leaving my poor monitor with the store. |
